Course Description:

Approximately 25% of adults have sleep-related breathing disorders such as UARS and OSA, and we now know it’s mostly preventable. This course will teach you how to recognize risk factors and the progression of breathing disorders at every age. And how to improve the health trajectory of airway-disordered children. Bring your whole team, as they will leave truly inspired to help build a successful pediatric airway practice as well as an interdisciplinary team in your community.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this lecture, participants will be able to:

  1. Why a good latch matters, and how lip-and/or tongue-tie release is a game-changer
  2. How to differentiate between parent-reported symptoms and clinical signs of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) and OSA.
  3. What you can do to help create a broad, flat palate-long before the orthodontist initiates RPE
  4. When and how we make strong referrals for the removal of tonsils and adenoids.
  5. The risk factors influencing the underdeveloped midface
  6. Why and when myofunctional therapy makes a difference.
  7. How to create an interdisciplinary pediatric airway team in your community
  8. How to establish a practice of esteemed distinction around general and pediatric airway health.

Practical Applications:

  • Screen infants and children for early airway risk factors such as poor latch, tongue-tie, mouth breathing, and midface underdevelopment, and initiate timely referrals to appropriate specialists.
  • Differentiate parent-reported sleep concerns from observable clinical signs of sleep-disordered breathing to guide early intervention and prevent progression to pediatric OSA.
  • Collaborate with dentists, ENTs, myofunctional therapists, and other providers to build an interdisciplinary pediatric airway care pathway that improves long-term health outcomes.
