Student Poster Contest 

The American Academy for Oral & Systemic Health (AAOSH) invites medical, dental, hygiene, and allied health students to participate in the 2026 Student Poster Contest. This annual competition is designed to advance interdisciplinary thinking, ignite scientific curiosity, and inspire next-generation leaders in oral and systemic health. Participants will explore one of two transformative themes: The Oral/Systemic Revolution or The Oral/Systemic Movement into the Future with AI. Students may submit research, case studies, public health concepts, or technology-driven innovations that advance understanding of the oral & systemic connection. Selected posters will be showcased at the AAOSH Annual Session 2026 in New Orleans, with top projects recognized before leaders in medicine, dentistry, and healthcare innovation. 

KEY DEADLINES and DATES:

Call for Submissions Opens: January 1, 2026

Submission Deadline: June 15, 2026

 

Finalists Notified: August 1, 2026

Poster Session at AAOSH Annual Session: September 10-12, 2026

Award Ceremony: AAOSH Gala September 11, 2026 

Contest Themes 

Theme Option 1: The Oral/Systemic Revolution

Systemic Health Icon

Posters in this category may focus on:

  • Emerging oral–systemic pathways
  • Prevention-focused strategies
  • Interdisciplinary care models
  • New diagnostic, therapeutic, or microbiome science
  • Case studies illustrating systemic impacts of oral disease

Theme Option 2: The Oral/Systemic Movement into the Future with A.I.

Posters in this category may focus on:

  • AI in diagnostics, risk assessment, or early detection
  • Machine learning for oral–systemic biomarker discovery
  • AI in personalized medicine or precision dentistry
  • Data-driven prevention strategies
  • Ethical, clinical, or workflow implications of AI

Annual Session 2026 - Social Posts

Who Can Submit a Poster?

The Contest is Open To:

  • Dental students (DDS/DMD)
  • Medical students (MD/DO)
  • Nursing students (ADN, BSN, MSN, DNP)
  • Dental hygiene students (RDH/BSDH/MDH)
  • Undergraduate students in the health sciences, public health, or related fields
  • Graduate students in health sciences, public health, or related fields
  • Residents in dentistry or medicine

Team submissions are allowed (up to 3 students). However, each participant may submit only one poster.

Poster Categories

Participants may submit within one of the following categories:

  1. Research Poster (clinical, scientific, or laboratory-based)
  2. Case Study Poster (oral–systemic diagnosis, management, or outcome)
  3. Innovation & Technology Poster (ideal for AI-themed work)
  4. Public Health & Education Poster (infographics, prevention, community programs)
  5. Interdisciplinary Collaboration Poster (joint medical–dental work encouraged)

Submission Requirements

Poster Format:
  • PDF format only
  • Minimum 300 dpi resolution
  • Size: 36 x 48 inches tri-fold poster
  • File naming: LastName_School_Theme.pdf
  • Submit as a single PDF including poster + abstract page

Required Elements:
  • Each submission must include:
  • Poster title
  • Student name(s), institution, program, expected graduation year
  • 250–300-word abstract summarizing the project
  • 2–3 learning objectives • References (AMA or APA)
  • Optional: QR codes linking to supplemental data or visuals
  • PLEASE NOTE: All scholarship recipients will be required to present their posters on stage at the Annual Session, accompanied by a 30-minute presentation.

AI Transparency:

If AI tools are used, students must provide a brief disclosure outlining:
  • Which AI tools were used
  • For what purpose
  • How outputs were validated
AI may not be used to fabricate or manipulate data.

Content & Ethics Requirements

Posters must be original work.

  • Research involving human subjects must comply with institutional guidelines (IRB approval if required).
  • Case studies must remove all PHI.
  • Content must be unbiased and free from commercial influence.
  • Collaborations with corporate partners must be disclosed.

Judging Criteria and Process

Judging Criteria:

Each poster will be evaluated by a panel of interdisciplinary judges using the following weighted rubric:

  1. Relevance to Theme – 20 points
  2. Scientific Accuracy & Evidence Base – 25 points
  3. Innovation & Creativity – 20 points
  4. Visual Clarity & Organization – 20 points
  5. Impact & Contribution to Oral–Systemic Health – 15 points

Total Available: 100 points

 

Judging Process:

  • Judges will review submissions through a blind review process.
  • Posters selected as finalists will be displayed at the AAOSH Annual Session.
  • Finalists may be asked to present a brief (3–5 minute) explanation to judges at the event.
  • A live People’s Choice Award will also be determined via attendee QR-code voting.

Awards & Recognition

AAOSH will select a poster for each of the following:

  • Best Research Poster
  • Best AI/Innovation Poster
  • Best Public Health or Patient Education Poster
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration Award

Then, one winner will be selected in each of the following categories:

  • Best Overall Poster
  • People’s Choice Award (Includes a $1,000 Scholarship)

Winners Receive:

  • Ticket, Hotel, and Flight to AAOSH Annual Session in New Orleans
  • Award plaque
  • On-stage recognition at AAOSH Annual Session
  • Feature in AAOSH digital platforms and newsletter
  • Video interview for AAOSH media channels
