Event organizers will be in contact in the coming days on a date to reschedule the event. September 9, 2024, Springfield, IL — The American Academy for Oral and Systemic Health (AAOSH) is excited to participate in the first of its kinds Medical Dental Integration Interprofessional Education (IPE) Seminar at Augusta University’s Medical College of Georgia on Friday, October 4, 2024. This free event targets healthcare professionals, with a focus on community providers, faculty and students from nursing, allied health, medicine, and dentistry.

Dr. Ellie Campbell, Co-Director and Board-Certified Integrative Family Physician, in solo practice in Cumming, GA, highlights the seminar's importance: "This is a rare opportunity for medical and dental students and faculty to explore the vital mouth-body connection, a crucial concept often overlooked in traditional healthcare education."

This inaugural seminar in Georgia brings together various healthcare professionals for a five-hour continuing education session. The event will cover topics like oral-systemic health connections, airway health, microbial pathogens, the early detection of atherosclerotic plaque, and the prevention of chronic diseases including diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.

SEMINAR OBJECTIVES

Participants will explore the oral microbiome's impact on systemic health, periodontal disease's role in inflammation, pediatric orofacial development, sleep disorders and airway health. Connections between oral health and systemic conditions like cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease and bedside screening will also be discussed.
