AAPP and the New Era of Medicine

Dear fellow AAOSH members,

As a physician, I must applaud AAOSH leadership for the outstanding annual conference presented at the Cleveland Clinic.  I never thought I would learn so much medicine at a dental conference!  As a physician who understands the unequivocal contribution that chronic oral infections have on many systemic diseases, I encourage all of you to join the battle and implement an oral systemic education and action program in your practice.

LEARN

Let the AAOSH conference be the beginning, not the end of your learning.  I encourage all of you to master your craft and learn more about the oral systemic connection.  If you're able, attend the Bale-Doneen Preceptorship for dentists in November.  Otherwise, turn to resources your education committee will provide.  PennWell Publishers has posted an 8 credit continuing education course I wrote for dentists, hygienists, and DA titled, "A Comprehensive Review of Vascular Disease".  Links to it can be found on my website.  The course includes an action plan for dentists to join the fight against the #1 killer in the United States.  It is especially helpful if you were not able to attend the conference.  For those who attended, it's an expanded version of what you learned.  By doing either he preceptorship or online learning, you will know more about preventive cardiology than many Physicians!

PARTNER

Find a physician in your community who has attended to the Bale-Doneen Preceptorship.  If there are none, invite someone to join you, or suggest they go to the preceptorship for physicians.  Consider giving several physicians who you respect an introduction to its value by giving them a copy of part 1 of the CE series.

ACT

Help me and other physicians who have a proactive mindset empower our country to create health.  We are all health professionals and should treat the whole body, not just a body part.  We live in a reactive medical society and those of us who are proactive thinkers need to band together and lead our country into the 3rd Era of Medicine.

Again, I applaud your leadership and look forward to the collaboration between AAOSH and AAPP.  It is the model of collaboration that is needed between all dentists and physicians!  Consider becoming an AAPP member.  It is just $50 for dentists, priced to connect our innovative forward thinking organizations.
