Course Description:

This course examines the intricate relationship between the gut microbiome, specifically focusing on both oral and gut microbiota, and its profound impact on central nervous system (CNS) inflammation and various systemic disorders. Participants will explore the multifaceted connections between gut health and overall well-being, emphasizing the pivotal role of functional lab testing in understanding and evaluating different aspects of the microbiome. The course will also highlight the significance of functional endocrine testing, particularly adrenal and thyroid assessments, in enhancing patient health and holistic treatment approaches.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recall the fundamental components and diversity of the gut microbiome, elucidating the distinct roles played by the oral and gut microbiota in maintaining health and contributing to systemic disorders.
  • Explain the intricate connections between gut microbial composition, CNS inflammation, and their impact on various systemic disorders, demonstrating an understanding of the pathways and mechanisms involved.
  • Comprehend the rationale behind utilizing functional endocrine testing, particularly in evaluating adrenal and thyroid function, and articulate how deficiencies or imbalances in these endocrine systems can affect overall health.
  • Utilize functional lab testing methodologies discussed in the course to analyze and interpret test results effectively, demonstrating the application of this knowledge in clinical or research settings.
