Course Description:

Literature suggests that when patients have an acidic mouth or acidic saliva, they are at a higher risk for caries. In this webinar, we will explore how to measure acidity in a patient’s mouth and their ability to bounce back after an acidic attack (buffer capacity).

Learning Objectives:

  • Recall the seven critical elements of a patient's sialo chemistry.
  • Explain, in a general sense, the markers of acidity and buffer capacity in sialo chemistry.
  • Analyze the specific characteristics of acidity and buffer capacity and their implications for oral health.
  • Apply the knowledge gained to review clinical cases and create preventative plans for high-caries risk patients with low acidity and poor buffering capacity.
  • Discuss the relationship between edge and buffer capacity concerning dental caries and convey this information to patients.
  • Evaluate and identify clinical products that can aid patients in reducing acidity and increasing buffer capacity.
  • Apply the acquired knowledge to prescribe personalized prevention plans for patients to reduce and prevent oral diseases.
