Course Description:

The epigenetic changes that have occurred to the face have changed the airway fast, by evolutionary standards, but slow enough to make us think that what appears as common is really ordinary. It’s becoming evident that we are proving the Pottenger Hypothesis that our food is making us not only sick but also changing our structures. His famous cat study called out the poor diet’s effect on the shape and density of the zygoma. But it’s worse than that. The whole face is shrinking.

What can a fully integrated oral systemic practice do? More than you think.  Dentists are in the hot seat, and dental hygienists have the fire extinguisher. Being aware of what to look for and addressing issues as young as two years old is the first step in improving the health of citizens. Prevention doesn’t cost; It pays.

Learning Objectives:

  • Assess a health history for common epigenetic changes.
  • Communicate the changes to the patient.
  • Communicate the changes to an interdisciplinary team.
  • List ways to apply primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.
