Course Description:

"Sleep: The Common Final Pathway and Dental Sleep Relationships" refers to the connection between sleep disorders and oral health, mainly how dental professionals can play a role in identifying and addressing sleep-related issues.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the importance of sleep to other organ system functions.
  • Identify and explain the interrelationships between health and sleep.
  • Explain the interrelationship between sleep, dental sleep medicine, and health.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Joseph Ojile is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Clayton Sleep Institute (CSI). This sleep medicine clinical and research organization includes branded and non-branded sleep clinics, an insomnia center, and a research center. He is President of the Clayton Sleep Research Foundation, which produces the annual national conference, Updates in Sleep Medicine. He is a Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Sleep Foundation and serves as chair of the NSF subcommittee on continuing medical education. For the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), Ojile serves on the Practice Development Committee and in the Technology Evaluation Group. Dr. Ojile has managed clinical research studies that focus on sleep disorders, diabetes, and pulmonary disease and regularly lectures at both national and international conferences on issues related to sleep disorders and pulmonary disease. He has been published in multiple scholarly journals on various sleep medicine topics. Dr. Ojile is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, a member of the American Thoracic Society, and a member of the American Society of Internal Medicine. Ojile is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Pulmonary Diseases, and the American Board of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Ojile earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine.
