Course Description:

"The Importance of Nasal Breathing in the Treatment of Sleep Disordered Breathing" delves into the critical correlation between nasal airway improvement and the effective treatment of Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) in both adult and pediatric populations. This course combines existing research findings with recent compelling outcomes, empowering dental practitioners with the knowledge to advocate for collaborative approaches involving ENT surgeons and orthodontists for successful patient care. Discussions include obstacles to team development and strategies for overcoming them.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize and differentiate the distinctive signs and symptoms of Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) in adults compared to children, enabling accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment approaches.
  • Identify and interpret the fundamental radiologic indicators of nasal obstruction as observed on a sinus or Cone beam CT scan, facilitating comprehensive assessments and treatment planning for nasal airway improvement.
  • Comprehend the diverse treatment paradigms utilized in addressing Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) in adults versus children, fostering a nuanced understanding of therapeutic approaches specific to each age group.
  • Understand and evaluate the current limitations in the treatment of Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB), aiding in the realistic assessment of available interventions and the necessity for collaborative care among dental, ENT, and orthodontic professionals.
