Speaker: Richard J Miron, DDS, MSc, PhD, & Nathan E. Estrin, DDS, MSc

Title: “New trends in PRF therapy in Implant Dentistry, Periodontology and Facial Esthetics”

Synopsis:

The use of platelet concentrates has had a long history of use in various fields of medicine
as an autologous source of growth factors fabricated utilizing centrifugation of blood under various conditions. Over the past 10 years, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) has seen a steady increase in utilization for a variety of medical and dental procedures due to its lack of anti-coagulation factors favoring fibrin clot formation and faster wound healing. This talk aims to highlight the recent advancements made with respect to the newest formulations of platelet concentrates, including recent developments in horizontal centrifugation. Thereafter, the Bio-Heat technology will be presented as a way to completely replace collagen membranes in dentistry owing to the ability to extend the working properties of PRF from 2-3 weeks to 4-6 months. Lastly, new clinical applications and uses of PRF will be presented in implant dentistry, periodontology, and facial esthetics (Bio-Fillers using PRF). Lastly, antiseptic solutions commonly employed in dentistry, such as chlorhexidine, have historically been utilized in implant dentistry; however, recently, limited fibroblast proliferation and potential cell apoptosis have been demonstrated. This talk will further focus on the combination approach using PRF with StellaLife oral rinses and vitamin formulations in dentistry, leading to better and more intelligent healing and minimizing complications and risks.

Learning objectives:

By the end of this lecture, participants will be able to:

  • Optimization of protocols for any centrifugation device
  • Update on Bio-Heat technology and the ability to extend the working properties of PRF from 2-3 weeks to 4-6 months
  • New uses of PRF in implant dentistry and Facial Esthetics
  • Use of homeopathic rinses for better wound healing in regenerative dentistry
  • The importance of vitamin D and early implant failure is what every clinician should know.

Title: “Bridging Oral and Overall Health Through Everyday Habits"

Synopsis:

In this webinar, we begin with a brief review of oral dysbiosis—the imbalance of bacteria in the mouth—and its links to systemic health conditions like cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's, and diabetes. While this is a familiar topic for many, my focus is not solely on the problems but rather on practical solutions to shift from a reactive to a preventative approach.

At the heart of my message are habits around the four pillars eating, sleeping, breathing, and moving—which play a fundamental role in maintaining both oral and overall well-being. By making small, intentional changes in these areas, we can support a healthy oral microbiome, reduce disease risk, and improve patient outcomes.

To ensure lasting change, I will introduce the Tiny Habits Method, a science-backed framework for building sustainable daily habits. This approach empowers both practitioners and patients to implement small, effective behavior shifts—leading to meaningful improvements in health.

By the end of this session, you’ll have practical strategies to integrate lifestyle conversations into patient interactions, helping them take ownership of their health beyond the dental chair. Together, we can bridge the gap between oral and systemic health through everyday habits that last.

Learning objectives

  1. Explore how making specific adjustments to breathing, sleeping, eating, and moving can support the oral microbiome, and thus benefit overall health (what to do)
  2. Learn how to use the Tiny Habits Method to teach patients to make small, sustainable changes in daily routines for lasting health improvements ( How to implement)
  3. Embrace using questions about lifestyle as a tool to connect the dots between their habits and their oral health (How to communicate)

Practical

  • Tiny habits Method card to use
  • Suggested questions for their patients
  • Several practical suggestions for each of the 4 pillars

Title: “The Oral Microbiome and Whole-Body Health: Exploring the Hidden Connections"

Synopsis:

The oral microbiome is more than just a collection of bacteria in the mouth—it serves as a key regulator of systemic health. This lecture will explore the deep connections between oral microbial balance and overall well-being, highlighting its influence on cardiovascular, immune, and metabolic function. We’ll discuss how disruptions in the oral microbiome contribute to chronic disease and how key mechanisms, including nitric oxide production, inflammation control, and immune modulation, bridge the gap between oral and systemic health. Attendees will comprehensively understand why oral health is essential for maintaining whole-body balance and the practical steps to support it.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand how the oral microbiome interacts with the immune system, cardiovascular function, and metabolic health.
  2. Identify key factors that disrupt oral microbial balance and their systemic consequences.
  3. Explore evidence-based strategies to support oral microbiome health, including its role in nitric oxide production and inflammation control.

Practical Applications:

  1. Implement oral health practices that promote a balanced microbiome and reduce systemic inflammation.
  2. Recognize early signs of oral microbiome dysbiosis and its potential impact on chronic diseases.
  3. Integrate microbiome-friendly strategies into patient care to optimize oral and systemic health.

Title: “Co-Discovery, Helping Your Patients Take Ownership for Their Health."

Synopsis:

The way we view and judge health is subjective. We develop it from our culture, personal experiences, and belief systems. Think about this: With health being subjective, what happens when our definition of health is different from that of our patients? Too often in health care, we attempt to make things easy for our patients by doing everything to and for them. We may think we’re helping lead them to health when what we’re really doing is taking away opportunities for engagement.

The art of facilitation is a wants vs needs-based philosophy where everything is related to the patient's needs and wants. It’s focused on their agenda, not ours. To successfully facilitate, we have to remember that people want to make good choices and decisions for themselves. Facilitation is about listening to understand, which is much more powerful and important than talking and telling. It creates an environment that fosters trust and collaboration and is designed to assist in co-discovery and co-diagnosis. Facilitation involves Listening. Understanding. and Inspiring. It’s the cornerstone for helping patients take ownership for their health.

It’s important to recognize that we don’t know what’s best for our patients and that they are their own best diagnosticians. They will always make better choices for themselves than any of us would for them. This course will assist you in being able to work with others to help create commitment for lifelong change.

Learning objectives

  • Define the principles and processes of Co-Discovery and Co-Diagnosis
  • Understand and Recognize the Expert Mindset
  • Define Facilitation in healthcare
  • Recognize the difference between our patients being Compliant vs Committed
  • Learn how to support our patients in taking personal ownership for their health
  • Learn the answer to ALL of our struggles with relating to patients and their processes (Spoiler Alert - it's Curiosity!)
