The University of Tennessee Health Science Center

As the first AAOSH Academic Partner, the University of Tennessee Dental Hygiene Department has approximately 60 students, 6 full time faculty, and 9 adjunct faculty. The CODA accredited program is a year long program (2 years of college prerequisites and 2 years of Dental Hygiene curriculum).

The campus is part of the largest health science center in the Mid-South, providing great potential for access to diverse population groups. Formal agreements have been reached between the university and several local clinics for student clinical rotations outside the program’s primary on campus teaching clinic. Specific learning objectives and experiences have been identified for such rotations.

The Dental Hygiene program was established in 1926, making it among the oldest programs in the country. The program has progressed from a certificate program to an entry-level Bachelor degree program. In 2004 the first online Master of Dental Hygiene program was developed here at UTHSC. The goal of this program is to prepare future dental hygiene educators and administrators.

The Department of Dental Hygiene within the College of Dentistry offers two degree programs, an entry-level Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene and an online post-professional Master of Dental Hygiene (currently suspended).

The curriculum in dental hygiene is designed to prepare graduates with a broad based general education; and a level of professional competence necessary for current and future dental hygiene practice. Graduates are prepared to function effectively in a clinical office setting; and also possess advanced knowledge and skills required for careers in teaching, research, public health, and other related areas.

International College of Integrative Medicine (ICIM)

The International College of Integrative Medicine (ICIM) is a not-for-profit medical organization that seeks to teach the latest research in preventative, alternative, and innovative treatments.

Our members are physicians who are comfortable treating health concerns relating to circulation, the brain, the immune system, hormones, digestion, pain, and/or toxicity. We are health professionals who are interested in utilizing more than just drugs or surgical procedures in the holistic care of our patients.

Through our semiannual conferences and advanced-level trainings, we seek to fulfill our mission of providing physicians with a comprehensive understanding of integrative medical care.

Oral Cancer Cause (OCC)

Oral Cancer Cause (OCC), a 501(c)3 non-profit, was founded in 2013 by Linda Miles and Robin Morrison in memory of Charlotte Estep, Linda Miles’ sister-in-law, and Mike Collins, Robin Morrison’s brother. Charlotte and Mike passed away in 2012 after suffering for several years from oral cancer. Both went undiagnosed for an extended amount of time, thereby allowing their disease to progress to an advanced and untreatable stage. Linda and Robin have a combined 80+ years experience in dentistry. Their shared passion for dentistry and saving lives is the OCC inspiration. By blending the knowledge of early detection and treatment; comprehensive oral exams along with dedicated dental/medical professionals; sponsoring partners; and dental/medical associations, OCC will make a difference in the lives of many oral cancer patients and their families.
