Course Description:

This course provides the learner with a look at the pivotal role of interoception in children's holistic development, specifically its influence on oral functions and nasal breathing patterns. Through a multidisciplinary exploration of current research, this lecture illuminates the relevance of interoception in human functioning and its implications within the context of orofacial myofunctional therapy. The session introduces innovative approaches to enhance interoceptive awareness within a comprehensive mind-body framework for optimized therapeutic outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the fundamental concept of interoception and its intricate neurobiological correlations within orofacial myofunctional therapy, elucidating its role in oral function development.
  • Identify and enumerate three distinct therapeutic techniques designed to foster and optimize interoceptive awareness within the scope of orofacial myofunctional therapy, recognizing their potential contributions to therapeutic interventions.
  • Describe and explain a screening tool specifically designed for assessing interoception in the context of orofacial myofunctional therapy, elucidating its significance in evaluating and addressing interoceptive aspects relevant to therapeutic planning and interventions.
