Course Description:

Wellness Coaching is the art and science of facilitating behavior change. It is a process facilitated through an empowering communication style and professional, client-centric relationship.

Working in partnership with the client, the wellness coach explores goals, habits, values, attitudes, perceptions, choices, exercise and nutritional routines, and any barriers to success. They provide the client with a complete picture of the behaviors and choices that hold them back. They assess clients' skills, capabilities, and motivations, ultimately leading them toward optimal health and well-being through favorable behavior modification.

In medical and dental settings, the integration of a Wellness Coach into practice or developing existing staff with a targeted program of coaching communication skills and easy-to-implement change-making processes has proven to help patients decrease risk factors, improve medication adherence, increase their exercise regimen, reduce stress, and improve their self-management.

Following these successes, the development of tools and programs specific to health and well-being practices has increased, and Whole Person Coaching is leading the way. During this program, we will discuss current trends and applications of wellness coaching inside medical and dental organizations. We will give you a first-hand experience of the key communication techniques used by innovative well-being professionals to invite change, moving patients from resistance into fresh perspectives and new approaches. Besides providing you with an opportunity for direct experience, we will explore several case studies from the dental profession. We will illustrate the power of coaching to motivate patients toward better healthcare and how it improves communication and understanding for both them and their care providers.

Learning Objectives:

  • Comprehend the role of wellness coaching in inspiring patients to adopt new behaviors.
  • Elucidate the impact of delivering patient-centric treatment plans on long-term health enhancement.
  • Analyze a select set of coaching tools and techniques that aim to identify, address, and maximize the likelihood of overcoming challenges, highlighting their differences and similarities.
