Course Description:

This workshop will focus on best practices for ketogenic diet (KD) implementation, time-restricted feeding (TRF), ketone monitoring, glucose monitoring, cardiometabolic biomarker monitoring, supplement considerations, and potential side effects. Emphasis will be on strategies that can improve systemic health and immune health through metabolic optimization. The information provided will cover adjusting macronutrient ratios and meal timing (TRF) to shift metabolic physiology into a therapeutic state. The ketogenic diet is defined by the absence or presence of ketones measured in urine, blood, or breath. The Pros and Cons of ketone monitoring technologies will be discussed. In addition, questions will be addressed on the topic of side effects, beneficial supplements, and how to best adapt this approach as a lifestyle for health and longevity.

Learning Objectives:

  • Evaluate the most effective approach for initiating a ketogenic diet, which includes macronutrient tracking.
  • Analyze the optimal tracking of hormonal changes while inducing and sustaining nutritional ketosis.
  • Analyze the various methods of ketone monitoring and justify the choice of one way over another.
  • Develop a plan for supplement consideration to prevent nutritional deficiencies and facilitate a smooth transition into nutritional ketosis.
  • Evaluate and differentiate the optimal ketone range for lifestyle purposes compared to managing specific diseases.
  • Analyze the critical cardiometabolic biomarkers that should be measured and monitored when implementing a ketogenic diet.
  • Understand potential side effects associated with the ketogenic diet.
  • Evaluate emerging applications of the ketogenic diet, focusing on discussing relevant human clinical trials.
